Krahula Hold Off Hays


#24 James Krahula leads #52 Brody Hays through the final corner.

JOLIET – Sunday’s Premier Racing League Sportsman Truck Series race at Chicagoland saw a lot of action despite only three cautions. James Krahula took the lead on the last pit stop after the then leaders Scott Eckrich and Brody Hays made contact going into Turn 3 with only 12 laps to go. Krahula was able to lead the final 11 laps and claim his second victory of the regular season.

Savage Spinners Pole winner Scott Eckrich battled with Brody Hays during the final laps until contact between the two drivers sent Eckrich into the outside wall and ending his day. Hays led the most laps in the event and was able to recover to bring his truck home in second. JR Smith came home with a third place finish in only his second start in the series. Brian Mellendorf and Bruce Whitson would finish in 4th and 5th. Gary Whitson was the early favorite in the event when Whitson was caught up in a wreck while leading. Whitson would finish 24th.

Despite a poor finish from DJ Beverly on Sunday, DJ was able to secure the last Round of 12 spot for the Sportsman Truck Series Chase that will start next week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Scott Eckrich will lead the start of the post season with his 5 victories, just 1 ahead of Jake Wright. Ricky Hardin and James Krahula will enter with 2 victories. Pierre Daigle and Jason Swann were able to get in with a victory as well.
